Graduate PLUS Loans Change Effective July 1, 2026
Direct Graduate PLUS Loans are no longer available to most graduate and professional students. A limited exception exists for students who:
- Were enrolled in their current program on or before June 30, 2026;
- Received a federal Direct Loan for that same program before July 1, 2026; and
- Remain continuously enrolled in the same program at the same institution.
Students who meet these conditions should contact the Office of Financial Aid regarding eligibility.

Institutional Assistance
Scholarships, tuition waivers, health insurance support, and non-service stipends are included as resources when determining financial aid eligibility and may reduce educational loan eligibility.
Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
Students must make academic progress toward their degree by completing a minimum number of credit hours and maintaining a minimum GPA each semester to remain eligible for federal financial aid consideration. SAP is evaluated after each semester.
Tulane's SAP Policy Components
- Grade Point Average: Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 for graduate students.
- Completion Rate: Successfully earn at least two-thirds (66%) of cumulative attempted credits.
- Maximum Timeframe: Students may not exceed 150% of the published length of their academic program.

Withdrawals
A student who begins attendance but fails to earn a passing grade in at least one course and does not officially withdraw is considered to have unofficially withdrawn.
Important: Official and unofficial withdrawals are subject to financial aid adjustments that may result in a balance owed to Tulane University.
