Financial aid for international students is limited. While international students are generally eligible for our merit scholarships, they are ineligible for the various types of federal student aid resources offered by the U.S. Department of Education. A student must be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen to receive U.S. federal student aid. Review Eligible Noncitizen for more details. If a student is ineligible to receive a U.S. federal student aid, then the student does not need to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Educational Loans
Loan options are available for international students through private/alternative educational loans which allow application if (with few exceptions) the international student obtains a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident co-signer. The co-signer must supply a U.S. social security number, have a satisfactory credit history, and demonstrate sufficient current income to repay credit obligations (including the educational loan). The student applicant also should provide a U.S. social security number if possible. With a creditworthy co-signer, a student can borrow up to the Cost of Attendance. Tulane determines the borrower's maximum loan eligibility based on the Cost of Attendance for the academic year associated with the loan, less any other financial aid received. Scholarships for Undergraduate Students
Full-time undergraduate international students (enrolled in 12 credit hours or more) and/or undocumented students (excluding students in our School of Professional Advancement) may be considered for Tulane’s need-based scholarships up to a maximum amount annually. Applicable to Newcomb-Tulane undergraduate international students (incoming and returning) effective for the 2025-2026 academic year,
Students receiving a merit or athletic scholarship in excess of the maximum above are not eligible for additional need-based scholarships. An international student's remaining financial need must be funded by the student's family or from another resource. Those who wish to be considered for Tulane need-based scholarship funds should complete the online CSS Profile by the appropriate application deadlines. Returning students should submit the CSS Profile by May 1st.
Graduate Students
Institutional aid, such as scholarship or fellowship aid, is offered directly from the various graduate schools. Interested applicants should contact the schools directly for more information.
