Applying for Financial Aid

Applying for financial aid need may at first seem to be an intimidating task, but if you understand the application process and the necessary steps for the types of aid you’re seeking, then the process should hopefully not be daunting and the end result may prove rewarding. Federal Student Aid

Applicable to All Eligible Student Populations (Undergraduates and Graduate/Professional Students)

  • Complete the FAFSA using Tulane’s federal school code: 002029.
  • Provide necessary documentation directly to Tulane IF your FAFSA is selected by the U.S. Department of Education for verification.
  • Provide, if requested, any additional necessary documentation (common example: citizenship documentation).
  • Complete, if applicable (generally for graduate levels; all SoPA students; and all summer aid applicants) the respective Tulane on-line financial aid addendum.
  • Notify the Tulane University Financial Aid Office of any gift aid you expect to receive for the academic year (examples: scholarships; no-work stipends; tuition waivers).
  • Check Tulane’s secure on-line Gibson portal to learn of any “To Do” items being requested.

Merit Scholarships

Applicable to All Incoming Full-Time Undergraduates (except SoPA students)

  • Understand that all merit scholarship decisions are determined by the Tulane Undergraduate Admission Office and that ALL admitted students are automatically considered for any partial tuition merit scholarship.
  • Check with the Admission Office concerning any scholarships requiring a separate application process to learn details and deadlines.

Applicable to All Incoming Students (except aforementioned full-time undergraduates)

  • Understand that SoPA and each graduate division limited merit scholarship decisions are determined by the respective admission office.
  • Contact your respective admission office for details concerning possible merit scholarship offerings (if any).

Need-Based Scholarships for Full-Time Undergraduates

Applicable to All Incoming Full-Time Undergraduates (except SoPA students)

  • Complete all of the aforementioned steps for federal student aid (except international students).
  • Complete the CSS Profile using Tulane’s federal school code: 6832.
  • Provide necessary validation documentation directly to Tulane. Tulane DOES NOT participate in the CSS IDOCS document upload program.
  • Provide, if requested, any additional necessary documentation (common examples: copies of parents’ business tax returns).
  • Complete, if applicable (only applicable if student’s parents are separated and/or divorced) the CSS Non-Custodial Parent Profile.
  • Notify the Tulane University Financial Aid Office of any gift aid you expect to receive for the academic year (examples: scholarships; no-work stipends; tuition waivers).
  • Check Tulane’s secure on-line Gibson portal to learn of any “To Do” items being requested.
