Applying for financial aid need may at first seem to be an intimidating task, but if you understand the application process and the necessary steps for the types of aid you’re seeking, then the process should hopefully not be daunting and the end result may prove rewarding. Please review the information below and also check out additional details found at Completing Your Application.
Federal Student Aid
Applicable to All Eligible Student Populations (Undergraduates and Graduate/Professional Students)
- Complete the FAFSA using Tulane’s federal school code: 002029.
- Provide necessary documentation directly to Tulane IF your FAFSA is selected by the U.S. Department of Education for verification.
- Provide, if requested, any additional necessary documentation (common example: citizenship documentation).
- Complete, if applicable (generally for graduate levels; all SoPA students; and all summer aid applicants) the respective Tulane on-line financial aid addendum.
- Notify the Tulane University Financial Aid Office of any gift aid you expect to receive for the academic year (examples: scholarships; no-work stipends; tuition waivers).
- Check Tulane’s secure on-line Gibson portal to learn of any “To Do” items being requested.
- Please note that Tulane Financial Aid cannot process federal loans once the aid period for which the loans are intended has ended, or after the student has ceased attendance, whichever comes first. This deadline is in effect for federal educational loans for either a student or their parents. The federal deadline for federal educational loan origination is by the end of the award period for the loan, so federal educational loans in virtually every case must have disbursed while the student is still in attendance in the academic period for which the loans are intended. We strongly recommend that students and/or parents communicate and finalize their borrowing intentions at least one month prior to the end of each semester.
